In Amsterdams Historisches Museum sind sieben Jahrhunderte holländischer Geschichte ausgestellt. Zu den wichtigsten Ausstellungsthemen zählen verschiedene Modelle, Gemälde, archäologische Befunde und andere Objekte, die von dem Wachstum Amsterdams seit dem Mittelalter bis hin zur heutigen Metropole zeugen.
Der Besucher kann mittelalterliche Schuhe und den regenbogenfarbenen Regenschirm der Gay Games ‘98 bestaunen. Auch Bilder der Amsterdamer Miliz können hier beispielsweise bewundert werden. Das Gebäude selbst war übrigens früher einmal ein stattliches Waisenhaus.
